Quintin Berry is playing too well to send back to AAA…

This is what comes to mind when I think of Tigers baseball right now…

Disappointing Losses

Annoying Injuries

Frustration with Lineup

Underperformance

Luckily, the clubhouse has had a spark this season with the surprising performances of Austin Jackson, Andy Dirks, and Quintin Berry.  Unfortunately, we had to find out how good Quintin Berry is because of Jackson’s injury.  FYI, Dirks has been day-to-day with his sore achilles, hopefully he’s back soon.

Assuming Jackson gets back in a matter of days, and Dirks isn’t headed to the DL, how would you structure the lineup to keep Berry in a Tigers uni?  This is what I would do…

CF Jackson

LF Berry

3B Cabrera

1B Fielder

DH Young

SS Peralta

C Avila

2B Santiago/Worth

RF Dirks

I like Dirks in the 9 spot, because then he’s got Jackson and Berry following him if the Tigers bat around.  I could also see Dirks in the 6 or 7 spot.  The key here is I don’t see Boesch in the lineup.  I don’t see where he fits right now.  Defensively he’s not that fast, and I’d rather have Young at DH.  Could he be somebody we go package with a young pitcher and trade for a decent second baseman that has a batting average that isn’t in the shitter?  Not sure, but I’m sure the Tigers clubhouse is considering all the options.  What would your lineup look like?

Yoenis Cespedes… A “sure thing” or a GAMBLE?

Some timely link posting on the Cespedes situation… read up people!!

Is Yoenis Cespedes Really worth the Hype? – ESPN – Nearly half the clubs in the MLB have shown interest, but who will strike, and will the investment pay dividends?

Yoenis Cespedes signing before spring training – Yahoo Sports – Cespedes should be in the US in the next 7-10 days, where will he practice this spring? Arizona or Florida?

Can you Imagine if the Tigers did sign Yoenis Cespedes? – Detroit CBS Local – He’s likely not a better CF than A-Jax, but could he be a better leadoff hitter?  Who knows.. the first test is whether or not he can handle MLB pitching.

MLB Power Rankings: February Predictions and Rankings for All 30 teams – Bleacher Report – OK, this doesn’t really have anything to do with Cespedes, but this drove me nuts to read!!!  Tigers come in at #15, what is Matt Trueblood smoking?

I’m not going to lie, I think the guy has some good potential, but the true test will come when he faces big league pitching.  If Ilitch wants to reach deep and make it happen, I wouldn’t complain, thats for sure… but there is a part of me that wouldn’t mind camping out on the sidelines and seeing how this guy shakes out in the big show.  I feel pretty good about our chances without him already.

Favorite Tigers Memories…

One of my earliest memories as a Tigers fan goes back to the days of Sparky, Trammel, Nokes, Whitaker, Morris, Fielder and the eternal voice of Tigers Baseball in my mind, the great Ernie Harwell.

Probably around 1986ish my parents took my brother and I to a Spring Training game in Florida. I can remember the sounds of the fans, the smell of the ballpark, and the images of the players. Shortly after the game we lined up at the fence and hollered at Sparky Anderson. For a 5 year old kid to see the skipper flash a “thumbs up” was one of the coolest things ever.

My next greatest memory was being at the 2006 ALDS game against the Yankees when Kenny Rogers pitched a shutout. I’ve never been to a sporting event since that was more intense and electrifying. I high-fived more strangers that night than I could count. What a great game to spend with some good friends.

Glad I kept this in the closet…

So I couldn’t resist to share with you a picture of my old #45 Cecil Fielder jersey that I got when I was a young lad. Looks like I may be able to get some use out of this! Could Prince choose his dads old number? I doubt it, but it would be nice if he did… That would save me a couple hundred bucks from not having to buy a new one!
